How We Treat Periodontal Disease

Treating periodontitis will depend on its stage and severity. If you are dealing with mild to moderate periodontitis, there are a few non-surgical options our dental team may recommend:

Antibiotics: Our dental team may prescribe an oral antibiotic to help you address any infection beneath your gumline. They may also use a topical antibiotic, placing it beneath the gumline to target the affected areas. 

Scaling and Root Planing: This service removes plaque and tartar buildup from below the gumline and soothes the tooth roots to help gums reattach and heal. This process reduces inflammation and prevents further periodontal damage.

If you have more severe periodontitis, you may need to undergo surgical treatment to prevent tooth loss. These treatments may include flap surgery, bone grafting, and gum grafts. Once you have been treated, our dental team will provide expert advice to protect you from recurring gum irritation and illness. Some easy ways to prevent periodontal disease include:

• Consistent Oral Hygiene

  Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and use antimicrobial mouthwash.

• Eat a Vitamin-Rich Diet

  Eat plenty of vitamin-rich foods, especially vitamin C, to support your gum health. You should also limit sugary and starchy foods.

• Avoid Tobacco Products

  Using tobacco products significantly increases your risk of periodontal disease, so it is best to avoid consuming them.
